Vesomo
Vesomo counts calories the way you cook — by the gram. Weigh the ingredients and the finished dish, and it works out the nutrition per 100 g of what actually ended up in the pot. It checks what you ate against the energy you burned in Apple Health, and walks you through your workouts step by step. Everything works on your iPhone without an account; sync is optional. Free, no ads.
What it is
A food diary built around home cooking. Most calorie counters know a yoghurt but not your stew; Vesomo lets you log the stew as it came out of your kitchen.
- Recipes by weight. Weigh each ingredient, then the finished dish: nutrition per 100 g accounts for water lost in cooking. Set the number of servings and one serving is worked out for you. A recipe can be an ingredient of another recipe.
- Day balance. Eaten versus burned, with active and resting energy from Apple Health (for example from Apple Watch), a personal calorie and macro target, and charts over a week, a month or three months. A Home Screen widget shows the balance at a glance.
- Body. Weight, body fat and tape measurements, each with a goal and a trend.
- Workouts. A program generated for your goal, level, schedule and equipment, with an explanation of why it looks the way it does, then a guided session: warm-up, last weight pre-filled, rest timer on the Lock Screen.
- Family. Optionally share products and recipes with your household; everyone keeps their own diary.
- AI assistant. Connect Claude or another assistant that supports MCP, and it can add your own products — nutrition and portions included — to your account. Sign in with your password or a one-time code from the app. The assistant can’t read your diary.
Calorie and macro targets are estimates from standard formulas, not medical advice.
Private by default
- No account needed: without one, all data stays on the iPhone.
- An account (e-mail or Sign in with Apple) only adds sync and family sharing.
- Export your diary as CSV and everything else as JSON at any time; delete your account from inside the app.
- No third-party analytics, ads or crash reporting. Food search runs on the device. See the privacy policy.
Scales are optional
You never need a scale: type the weight or log by count (“1 egg = 55 g”). If you have a compatible Bluetooth scale, the weight fills in by itself once it settles.
- Kitchen: my own
foodrec-scale(an ESP32-C3 + HX711 build, covered in Building a BLE kitchen scale from a load cell), and — as an early addition — Futula / Lefu coffee scales. - Body: Xiaomi Mi Smart Scale 2 and Mi Body Composition Scale 2 (weight only).
Tech
Native SwiftUI with the Observation framework and SwiftData for local storage. Core Bluetooth for the scales, HealthKit for energy and weight, WidgetKit and ActivityKit for the widget and the rest-timer Live Activity. The food database ships with the app; an optional on-device embedding model (EmbeddingGemma) adds search by meaning. Sync runs through a small self-hosted backend, which also serves an MCP server with OAuth for AI assistants. iPhone only, iOS 17+, English and Russian.
